Aims & Objectives
Applied art is the closest type of art form that can be seen, touched and heard from our everyday activities. It serves an utilitarian purpose, provides rewarding experience of fun, pleasure, and viewing sensation, and even influences the way we live. The Higher Diploma in Applied Art programme consists of three major streams of design concentration with the shared philosophy of interdisciplinary approach. A flexible curriculum fosters unique interactions among different disciplines, which facilitate students’ adaptation to the demanding creative industries in Hong Kong.
Programme Structure
The programme consists of 78 credit units. The foundation studies provide solid and diversified training, which are structured to arm aspiring designers with a wide spectrum of skills, abilities, knowledge, disciplines and ethics as the general intrinsic in the creative field of design. The major studies, namely, Graphic Communication / Interior Design / Furniture & Home Product Design will provide the opportunity for students to focus on the particular areas of the design profession. The backbone and the spirit of the programme are the Graduation Projects, and by putting the emphasis on art direction, cross–media approach, critical discussion and conceptual development, students are encouraged to discover and develop their personal vice and to nourish their individuality by using design to respond to cultural and social issues.

Part-time: 3 Years (Classes are conducted on evenings or occasionally during weekends.)

The medium of instruction will be Cantonese supplemented with English.
Learning materials will be in Chinese and English as appropriate. |

| Admission Requirements |
| Holder of Certificate in Visual Art or Foundation Diploma in Visual Art from Hong Kong Art School or equivalent; or |
|
| Mature student at age 21 or above with substantial relevant experience.
|
|
| (Applicants are required to present their portfolios during the interview.) |
