Art course as cookery class
A metaphor was used by a student for his experience in the Master of Drama Education programme:
In my previous experience, it’s the tutor who served me with a delicious dish, but at the end of the day, what I’ve learnt is only how to reproduce the same dish to my patrons.
This programme, on the contrary, has taught me how to create my own haute cuisine.
This pertinent metaphor in certain way, brings out the essence of this Master programme, and also reflects the difference of such and the other resembling short-term courses.
The cuisine of Drama Education, with limitless combinations of ingredients and seasonings, is truly difficult to master. One has to know the food preference of his patrons, as well as the Chef’s own style of cooking. A prefect dish can only be created by numerous trials and errors.
Some could not help but ask: Why bother taking up this unfavourable task?
In this kitchen of Drama, a group of students with common interests, eager to explore the miracle of “food therapy” in the cuisine of Drama Education. The process is tough but certainly fun-filled, and rewarding. That may be the answer.
