2017

Fresh Trend Art Award​

KAN Kiu Sin, our fresh graduate from the Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) programme(Major in Painting) who was awarded with "Fresh Trend Art Award"! 
Fresh Trend 2017 Art Graduates Joint Exhibition gathers the most outstanding art graduates from the three local art institutions. A total of 23 local graduates have been nominated by the Academy of Visual Arts, Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU), Department of Fine Arts, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), and Hong Kong Art School (HKAS) for this exhibition organised by Hong Kong Art Network and supported by Hong Kong Arts Development Council.

Hong Kong Arts Development Awards 2016-Award for Young Artist

Our alumni Lau Hok-shing, Hanison (Diploma of Fine Art graduate, Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) graduate and Master of Fine Art graduate) and Cheung Wai Sum, Eddie (Diploma of Fine Art graduate) on receiving the Hong Kong Arts Development Awards 2016-Award for Young Artist organised by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council in the areas of Visual Arts and Arts Criticism respectively, a recognition to their efforts and contributions to promoting local arts development.

 

Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale 2017 Korea - International Competition

YUEN So Ling, Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) graduate, has won the Silver Prize of the International Competition 2017 at the Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale in Korea with her artwork "Excavation", after the final screening to select the main awards from 89 artworks from 27 nations. The exhibition was hosted by Gyeonggi-do Province and was held at Icheon, Gwangju and Yeoju from April 22 to May 28.

 

"Small Change Big Ode" @ Hong Kong Monetary Authority Information Centre

A group of students and alumni from Hong Kong Art School’s Higher Diploma / Diploma programmes, Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) Programme, and Master of Fine Art Programme created a 3m x 3m mosaic artwork of the well-known Victoria Harbour for Hong Kong Monetary Authority Information Centre. Using more than 100,000 pieces of Hong Kong denominated coins, the students went through a long process of assembling, sorting and cleaning coins. The artwork《Small Change Big Ode》is now located on the 55/F of Two IFC.

57th Venice Biennale International Art Exhibition titled VIVA ARTE VIVA​

Ms. Firenze Lai (黎清妍), a graduate of the Hong Kong Art School (2006), is now featured in the 57th Venice Biennale International Art Exhibition titled VIVA ARTE VIVA curated by Christine Macel, Chief Curator at the Musée national d’art moderne – Centre Pompidou in Paris. The theme the curator explores for this year’s exhibition focuses on “the role, the voice, and the responsibility” of the artist in the current troubled times.

"Hong Kong Arts Centre X Art in MTR" @South Horizons Station

CHEUNG Wai Lok, alumnus from the Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) programme (majoring in Photography) participated “Hong Kong Arts Centre X Art in MTR” presented by MTR Corporation Limited in partnership with Hong Kong Arts Centre and Public Art Hong Kong, and his artwork “Day” and “Night” was displayed on the external glass wall of Entrances A and B of the South Horizons Station (in operation from 28/12/16)! 

  

Silver Award-winning work of the 2016 Taipei International Design Award

In November 2016, The Book “See the Unseen” designed by our alumnus Ray LAU’s “Tomorrow Design Office” and features artworks by Rachel CHEUNG, our School’s Lecturer (Specialty: Ceramics) became the Silver Award-winning work of the 2016 Taipei International Design Award in the Visual Communication Design category!

 

Gold Award in the 44th Hong Kong Arts Festival’s “Creativity in Action…” Photography Competition​

Katie VAJDA, graduate of the Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) programme, received the Gold Award in the 44th Hong Kong Arts Festival’s “Creativity in Action…” Photography Competition in March 2016. She also won the “Hong Kong Human Rights Arts Prize” in 2014.

  

Fresh Trend 2016

10 graduates of the Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) programme took part in the Fresh Trend 2016 Art Graduates Joint Exhibition, among which CHEUNG Pik Wa Renita, got the Fresh Trend Art Award. Over 40 art graduates from local and Mainland China joined the exhibition.

 

Setouchi Triennale 2016

CHEUNG Wai Sze Rachel, alumna of the Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) programme and currently also  lecturer of Hong Kong Art School, and LEE Mei Kuen Carol, alumna of the Master of Fine Art programme, attended the community arts project “The Fukutake House Asia Art Platform”. They worked with artists from Australia, Indonesia, Korea, Taiwan and Thailand in the Setouchi Triennale 2016. 

 

Art in MTR project (Ho Man Tin station)

HEUNG Kin Fung Alex, graduated from the Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) and Master of Fine Art programme, now a lecturer of Hong Kong Art School, took part in the Art in MTR project co-presented by Hong Kong Arts Centre, Public Art Hong Kong and MTR. His works are now permanently displayed at the Ho Man Tin station of the new MTR Kwun Tong Line Extension. 

  

Art Annex Showcase at the Joint Publishing Flagship Store

Art Annex is a new series of art showing projects, under which, the school showcased ceramics functional ware homemade by Fine Art students and alumni at the Joint Publishing Flagship Store in August 2016, with an aim to enhance public awareness towards art and culture and to incorporate art into everyday life. 

  

Fine Art Asia 2016

In October 2016, the School participated as the Education Partner for the fifth consecutive year in the Fine Art Asia, which is a prominent art fair held in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Exquisite works by students and alumni were showcased and a series of art educational activities such as artist sharing, docent tours and ceramics workshop were conducted.

Student Exchage in Kyoto University of Art & Design

In September 2015, 10 of our students, majoring in Ceramic study, joined an exclusive one-week exchange tour to Kyoto, Japan. 
Led by our lecturers and sponsored by the Chairman of our School Council, the students took part in outdoor wood-firing and ceramics-making activities at an art village, and carried out exchanges with students of Kyoto University of Art & Design. 

The Art of Swiss Beauty Travel Award

Jeanie HO, graduate of the Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) programme, received the Art of Swiss Beauty Travel Award which is sponsored by the Sa Sa International Holdings Limited. She had the chance to go for a study trip in Switzerland for enhancing art knowledge and broadening her horizon.

Self-financing Post-Secondary Scholarship Scheme of the Education Bureau

10 students of the School received special scholarship awards which included Outstanding Performance Scholarship, Best Progress Award, Talent Development Scholarship, Reaching Out Award and Endeavor Scholarship granted by the Self-financing Post-Secondary Scholarship Scheme of the Education Bureau.

 

Giant Year Gallery Award

4 of our students and graduates, CHEUNG Pik Wa Renita and AU Ho Lam from the Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) programme, and CHUNG Yuen Ting as well as TAM Ka Ho from our Higher Diploma in Fine Art programme, were awarded the Giant Year Gallery Award in 2015.  The Award was sponsored by the Giant Year Gallery, aiming to encourage students majoring in ceramics to further explore in ceramic art. 

 

2015 New Art Wave International Artist Award

Our alumna, YUEN So Ling, and student, KOK Chui Wah Ranee, from the Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) programme respectively won the Gold Prize and the Bronze Prize in the <2015 New Art Wave International Artist Award>.  They were selected from 96 artists / entries which came from art schools around the world with places including Taiwan, the United States, China and  Malaysia.

Modern Contemporary Art Competition in Venice​

Gloria Yip, a graduate from the Master of Fine Art programme, participated in the Modern Contemporary Art Competition in Venice, competing for the 8th Edition of the International Arte Laguna Prize. With her artwork inspired by NuShu, Gloria is the only Hong Kong artist among the top 30 finalists around the world.
