COURSE FEATURES
Clay is a material that can easily be obtained, yet it has seemingly become more and more inapproachable in our daily life. Have you ever tried holding clay in your palms? How does it feel when the clay slowly form into a shape with your body temperature? Participants will learn the basic techniques of clay pinching, slabbing and coiling; experience the process of adding colour slips and glazing, and create a unique pottery work for your home.

Content:

  • Introduction to clay-making
  • Create homey tea set with pinching techniques
  • Method of handling texture on the surface of the work
  • Create plates and simple ornaments with soft slabbing
  • Create plates with compression molding
  • Decorate with colour slips
  • Create different shapes of vase with coiling method
  • Basic techniques of glazing

* Students must bring their own aprons to lessons.

TUTOR
POON Fai Wong Nick
POON Fai Wong Nick received his Bachelor of Art (Fine Art) Degree from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) University (co-presented by Hong Kong Art School), majoring in Ceramics. Poon has been actively engaged in ceramic-related activities, exhibitions and teaching, and striving to promote ceramic culture. His pottery works are mainly created by throwing, pursuing the aesthetics of shapes and lines. He also explores the relationship between clay and his own body through creating exquisite and masculine body sculptures. His artwork has been collected by the Hong Kong Heritage Museum and private collector.
