The history of Automaton dates back a long time ago overseas. It is a creative approach enabling creators to transform different force powers into imaginations and stories. The course will start with teaching simple mechanical structures. Students will be able to make a series of storytelling automaton by learning traditional woodworking techniques. This is a journey of kinetic art creation.
The course aims at promoting the automaton craft heritage, passing down the traditional woodworking techniques and developing visual language expression. The course starts with the introduction of what automaton is and the recognition of different gear sets. Participants will learn how to use the wood working tools and the relevant techniques. During the learning process, they will be equipped to create their own pieces of art.

Chip Good Guy Studio is a Hong Kong-based art carpenter organization, founded in the midwinter in 2013 and has been active since then. Their creations are mainly focused on interactive kinetic artwork being made from upcycling wood with simple mechanism. They create playful and interactive works out of various topics and the works always trigger thoughts among viewers. They are not only active in different exhibitions and markets but are also passionate about art education.
