Teresia

Exhibition Statement

Wan Wing Lam’s inaugural solo exhibition “Teresia” draws inspiration from the Ikea curtain “Teresia”. Behind this seemingly ordinary product name lies an exploration of intimacy and publicity within interpersonal relationships, as well as an examination of suppressed inner desires and power dynamics in emotional connections.
Using the origins of the Ikea curtain “Teresia” and its namesake, the famous courtesan Teresia Constantia Phillips, as a catalyst, Wan embarked on a seven-day journey across England. Following Teresia’s historical footsteps from London to Portsmouth, then
crossing the English Channel from Dover to Calais, France within one day. This journey culminates in a collection of insights that form the final chapter of the exhibition.
Wan connects curtains and windows to themes of intimacy, secrets, and desire, subtly alluding to hidden truths, memories, and unspoken feelings. In this exhibition, shepresents these ideas with a humorous and ironic twist.
