Ignis Fatuus — Exhibition at The Gallery of Hong Kong Art School

Exhibition Statement
Ignis Fatuus – a flickering green light resembling a flame is a natural phenomenon caused by the spontaneous combustion of decaying organic matter, and is found mainly in marshes. Its Latin name directly means Foolish Light.

This has become our description of the city, which in its mercurial state, expends its inner energy, giving off fragments of ever-changing consciousness and illusions.

Artist Biography – LEE Boon Ying
Boon LEE completed a his Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) degree from the Hong Kong Art School (co-presented with RMIT University), majoring in painting in 2020. Prior to that, he had a decades-long scientific career at the Hong Kong Observatory, retiring as the director.

He is interested in the study of colours and forms, with a minimalist and reductionist focus. His work often involves recyclables and readymades.

Artist Biography – LO Sin Ying
LO Sin Ying grew up overseas and worked in finance before completing a his Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art) degree from the Hong Kong Art School (co-presented with RMIT University), majoring in painting in 2020.

After returning to live in Hong Kong for many years, her artwork revolves around local culture and history on aspects of time, memory, and loss.  Sin Ying works with mixed media, painting, as well as installation.
