Cheung Wing Tin, Sylvia was educated in the United States where she received her Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts in Child Development. Upon her return to Hong Kong she received a Post-Graduate Certificate of Education from the University of Hong Kong.

Cheung’s career in teaching began in California where she was a preschool and kindergarten teacher. She returned to Hong Kong and taught at La Salle College in Kowloon Tong before becoming headmistress of Christ Church Kindergarten and then Diocesan Preparatory School. She joined the Hong Kong Polytechnic University as a lecturer and Programme Leader of the Bachelor of Arts in Pre-primary Education Programme from 1999 to 2006. She worked for the Education Bureau as Chief School Department Officer, setting up the Pre-primary Education Support Section from 2006 to 2010.

Cheung has been involved in public services for many years, and serves at various committees appointed by the Government, to name a few: Council Member, Hong Kong Institute of Education; Member, Assessment Panel on Language Development for Students in Kindergarten, Chief Executive’s Award for Teaching Excellence; Member, the Adjudication Panel for the Outstanding Schools Award Scheme, Quality Education Fund of the Education Department.

She has been a member of the Education Department Education Television Language Programmes and is past Chairman of the Hong Kong Council of Early Childhood Education and Services.

She is the author of several textbooks, Storyland PhonicsPlaytime PhonicsLetter and SoundsMy fun RhymesGalaxy Phonics ReadersEasy Phonicsand co-author of the first set of integrated curriculum set out in the Guide to Pre-primary Curriculum in 1986.
