Living with Heritage: Inherit and regeneration

COURSE FEATURES
Cultural Heritage is our legacy of physical artefacts and natural and intangible attributes of a group or society that are inherited from the past. We have been living with and maintained them in the present, so as to pass them on to future generations. This course will introduce the basic concepts of heritage, the current assessment and management system in Hong Kong and explore how heritage interweaves in our daily life through case studies of art and creative industries-led landscape, water, battlefield and living heritage regeneration projects.

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
– Acknowledge the basic categories of heritages;
– Acknowledge the heritage assessment method in Hong Kong;
– Recognize how heritage influences our current living and the importance of managing heritage for sustainability through selected heritage case studies.
– Recognize the potential impacts to communities and potential risks in cultural tourism development

Anna YAU

Ms YAU has been working for over a decade in heritage revitalisation, management, and education. She is a key project team member for the Mei Ho House Youth Hostel Revitalisation project and Lai Chi Wo Cultural Landscape project which have received UNESCO Asia Pacific Heritage Conservation Award in 2015 and 2020 respectively. She was selected as the delegate of China to participate in UNESCO’s first World Heritage Youth Forum in Asia and a jury member of UNESCO Asia Pacific Heritage Conservation Award.

Anna is an accredited heritage conservationist of the International Committee of Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS), Hong Kong Institute of Architectural Conservationists (HKICON) and Professional member of the Project Management Institute (PMI-PMP).

She is also the founder of Contemplate Culture Community, a cultural organization in Hong Kong, working for heritage education and training and sustainable management of heritage resources in Asia-Pacific.
